Sometimes our body can lack certain nutrient even if we consume lots of different food. For example, our body could lack potassium, because we consume food that’s high in other minerals except for potassium.
When our body lacks a certain nutrient, it sends us certain signs, but we need to learn how to recognize them.

8 Signs of Nutrient Deficiency

1. Nail Changes

Our nails are the window to our health. If the nails are thin, it may be a sign of iron deficiency in the body. If your nail is curved inwards, it is also a sign for mineral deficiency.

2. Leg Cramps

When you have a potassium deficiency, you may experience leg cramps, which mostly affect calves during the night. This leg cramps often occurs after an exercise or after spending the day in the gym, when the body loses fluids and electrolytes through sweat.
In this case, you should drink plenty of water to replace the lost electrolytes, and you should consume a lot of potassium-rich foods such as grapefruit, spinach, bananas, and broccoli.

3. Numbness in Hands and Feet

If you often feel like your feet and hands are numb, it could be a sign that you lack folic acid, B6, and B12 vitamin. Lack of folic acid, B6, and B12 vitamins can affect the nerve endings in the skin and can lead to a feeling of numbness in these parts of the body.
In this case, you should consume plenty of dark cabbage, spinach, collard greens, and other dark leafy vegetables. Additionally, you should add lean proteins like poultry, whole grains, eggs, and legumes to your diet.

According to the results from some recent studies, magnesium deficiency can also lead to muscle cramps.

4. Skin Inflammation

If you notice small, white or red acne-looking bumps on your skin, you should know that it could mean you lack vitamin A. These bumps usually affect face, arms, and thighs, because vitamin A helps the pores remove dead skin cells.
In order to boost your vitamin A levels, you should consume dark leafy veggies and lots of colorful veggies like carrots and sweet potatoes.

5. Feeling Down and Depression

If you develop a feeling of anxiety and depression, you should know that it is a sign that your body is deficient of vitamin C, D, B6, and B12, the minerals calcium, selenium, chromium, and iron, as well as omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

6. Fatigue and Low Energy
