Effective Remedies To Get Rid Of Pests

There are many reasons why we love summertime.

We always associate summer with beaches, camping, parties, but it also brings insects and bugs. Many people use insect repellents to protect themselves from the annoying insects. But these insect repellents contain DEET and other toxic chemicals that can cause serious health problems.

So, the best thing you can do is try to make your home pest-free by using natural remedies. Moreover, they are a much more effective solution than commercial products.

Citrus Peels

Rub some citrus peels on places like windowsills or bookshelves where you usually see spiders.

Garlic

Bugs can’t stand the smell of garlic. Sprinkle some garlic powder inside your house to keep the bugs away.

Herbs

Plant fragrant herbs such as lemongrass, mint, basil, or bay leaves at the back and front door of the house.

Cinnamon

Put some cinnamon at the entrance of your house and other holes and cracks.

Chalk

Ants never cross a chalk. All you have to is take a chalk and draw a line in your house.

Dryer sheets

Protect yourself from insects when you go hiking, camping or gardening by putting some dryer sheet inside your pocket.

Baking soda and sugar

Cockroaches are especially attracted to sugar. Mix some baking soda and sugar. Put this mixture in places where you usually see them. This mixture affects the digestive system of cockroaches and they will die.

Soybean oil

Soybean oil is also an effective natural solution to keep insects away.

Cedar

Cedar is the best solution to get rid of moths. Put cedar blocks inside the closet.

Lemon eucalyptus oil

Lemon eucalyptus oil helps prevent tick bites.

Baby powder

Baby powder is a very effective solution.

Cucumber slices

Slice a cucumber and keep it in your kitchen. In this way, you will keep the ants away from your kitchen.

Onion

First, slice an onion. Then, put the onions in a bowl of water. This mixture will repel the insects.

Vanilla extract

Mix some water and vanilla extract. You will enjoy the smell and pest proof your house at the same time.

Citronella

You can plant citronella grass in your garden, use citronella candles, or apply citronella essential oil on your skin.

Extra tips:

  • Make sure you always keep the house clean. Vaccum, scrub bathroom surfaces, dust, and change bedding regularly.
  • Wear light-colored clothing during the summer days. Mosquitoes are attracted by dark-colored clothes.
  • Use body products that have no scent. Insects are attracted to the smell of flowers and fruits.
