Magnesium, a “must have” for your health and your beauty

It is time to know why it is an essential mineral – Magnesium.

See if you guess:  It is good for muscle function, has anti-inflammatory properties, allows your skin to look healthy and is available in the market. The answer?  Magnesium. A “must have” for your health and your beauty.

For the nutritionist and coach Monica Mellid, director of the “Nutricionbilbao center”, the word that best defines it is “indispensable.” It is the second most abundant element in the body and is necessary for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body (almost nothing!) The most outstanding? Mellid makes the list: “It helps maintain normal muscle and nerve function, supports a healthy immune system, and helps keep bones strong. It also helps regulate blood sugar levels and energy and protein production. ”

But this is not all! We are going to explain why this nutrient cannot be lacking in your daily diet.

But let’s start with the principle: Where is magnesium hidden?

The nutritionist at the Hospital “Universitario Quirónsalud”- Madrid, Elena Pérez, explains that this mineral is found mainly in nuts, potatoes, vegetables and vegetables, although it is notable for its abundance in wheat bran and in pumpkin pipes. And to add some more ingredients to the shopping cart, the expert clarifies that magnesium is also present in spices, mainly in dill and basil.

Once ingested, magnesium works the bones (where half is found), muscles and is used for the generation of enzymes (substances that activate a biochemical reaction within the body).

But magnesium should be a staple in your beauty ritual! As Mellid explains, “it stimulates cell activity and metabolism, so it helps skin regeneration. In addition, it inhibits substances that degrade elastin, achieving a softer and more elastic skin.

Long live the magnesium!

If you are following a healthy and balanced diet, you do not have to worry. However, a very low intake of magnesium or excessive loss of this mineral due to certain health conditions (such as suffering from Crohn’s disease or cystic fibrosis), alcoholism, or even the use of certain medications can have negative consequences on your body. The main muscular symptoms would be cramps, tingling, numbness and muscle weakness, as Perez points out.

And although Mellid recognizes that it is not usual to suffer a deficiency of this mineral, in any case, “with a varied balanced diet and in accordance with our energy expenditure does not need supplementation.”
