Ida Keeling Is a 102-Year-Old Record-Breaker – She Says That Nothing Can Bring Her Down

Everyone wants to know the secret to a long life.

Can you imagine what would you be doing in your eighties, nineties, hundreds? Would you still have the hobbies that you have now? Do you think you could still be physically active?

This amazing woman, Ida Keeling, is a 102-year-old who has the answer to living a long and healthy life.

Believe it or not, Ida takes only one prescription drug. She has a strong immune system and states that she rarely gets sick. One of her favorite activities is riding a bike, lifting weights, and running on a treadmill. It was her daughter Shelley Keeling, who urged her start running at the age of 67 years old. Her husband suffered a heart attack when he was only 42 years old. But, the biggest tragedy that Ida suffered was when her two sons, Donald and Charles, were killed in horrifying drug-related homicides. Then, her blood sugar levels got really wacky, as high as 206/106. On top of it, Ida started fighting severe depression. However, she says that God had a different plan for her life.

Her recovery started with running 

Her daughter is a lawyer and a real estate investor. Also, she volunteers as a high school track coach. So, no wonder that Shelley managed to convince her trying a life-changing exercise. To encourage her even more, the daughter and mother ran a race together. The race took part in Brooklyn, New York.

This amazing woman managed to run 5 km. She found this race extremely hard, but in the end, she felt free. Ida said that she got rid of off all her bad memories, pain, and stress. She felt amazingly good and that is the reason why she has been running ever since. Shelley said that her mother made her really proud. She admires her strength, courage, and persistence. Also, she is more than happy to see that her mother didn’t let her negative feelings to bring her down. Ida proudly states that she is not like other older people.

This inspirational woman also added that she was pretty fast when she was younger. In 2011, Ida was 95 years old and she set the world record. She ran 60 meters at 29.86 seconds. In 2012, Ida set the American record at 51.58 seconds. In 2014, when she was 99 years old she was the fastest woman of her age. She ran 100-meter dash at 59.80 seconds at the Gay Games. In 2016, when she was 100 years old, she completed a historical success. Believe it or not, she ran the 100-meter dash in 1 minute and 17 seconds.

Ida Keeling’s advice to everyone is staying active. Also, make sure you are surrounded by people who support you unconditionally. Emotional support is the most important thing in your life.

Right now, she is working on her memoir, which is set to come out next month. This woman is an inspiration and motivation to many young and old people around the world.
